Coaching interviews scheduled
Decision could come soon on CHS girls post
Clovis High appears to be close to selecting a new girls basketball coach.
CHS athletic director Brian Stacy said Wednesday that the field of applicants has been whittled to five. They are to be interviewed by a committee today, he said.
With the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, Stacy said it will probably be at least Tuesday before the new coach is named.
“Hopefully, by Tuesday we should have somebody in place,” he said.
The opening came about when Miles Watters announced he was resigning the position on April 9. Watters had been the Lady Wildcats’ coach for seven years, leading them to a 30-0 record and the Class 5A state championship in 2005 and guiding them into the state finals in 2004 and 2007.
Watters plans to take a year off from teaching and coaching. He is the state’s all-time winningest girls coach (526-105), and led Clayton to 11 titles in a 14-year span (1981-94) in Class 2A.
