Coach’s comment: “There’s no question (about being able to contend again in 2A). We certainly are capable, and we have the people. We should get on the dance floor; it’s just a matter of how we dance.”

FORT SUMNER VIXENS

District 3-1A

Coach: Joel Wood (2nd year)

2006-07 record: 18-9 (5-3), lost in Class 1A state quarterfinals

2007-08 record: 3-3

Coach’s comment: “It’s one of those years that we’re rebuilding. We just have to work hard. I feel sure we’ll be better in February than we are now.”

Coach’s comment: “Our ultimate goal is to win the district. I feel we have a group of girls who have a lot of leadership, and I’m confident we should compete pretty well.”

District 4-1A

Coach: Alicia Rush (10th year)

2006-07 record: 14-11 (9-1)

2007-08 record: 5-4

Top players: Katarina Grau, 5-8 Sr. G; Payton Provencio, 5-9 Jr. P; Mandy Rush, 5-5 Fr. G.

Coach’s comment: “We’re just looking better every game. (Because of a late start after volleyball) we haven’t had a whole lot of practice time yet.”

CLOVIS CHRISTIAN LADY EAGLES

District 4-1A

Coach: Max Kralicek (4th year)

2006-07 record: 18-11 (7-3), school record for wins (this is 10th year)

2007-08 record: 2-4

Coach’s comment: “We’ve got a really good bunch of girls. That had a really good season in volleyball. That gives us kind of a late start in basketball, but we’re just starting to round into shape.”

Coach’s comment: “I feel like our girls have an excellent oppoprtunity to make the playoffs this year. Probably what makes this team click is that they get along well and they play team basketball.”

BOVINA FILLIES

District 5-1A

Coach: Eric Montemayor (1st year)

2006-07 record: 11-15 (2-8)

2007-08 record: 5-9

Top players: Audrie Terrones, 5-5 Jr. G; Yoselin Rueda, 5-6 So. F; Ruby Vela, 5-8 Sr. F; Lucero Saucedo, 5-6 Sr. F.

Coach’s comment: “We’ve had a very tough schedule. Most of the teams we’ve played will probably be in the playoffs.”

Coach’s comment: “We’re right there. Our district is so wide open, I think anybody can win it. It’s a long season with a lot of games left to play.”
