Andrew Gilliard will play his last high school baseball games this weekend in the Class 4A-5A all-star series in Las Cruces.

The recent Clovis High graduate, who will play outfield for the North team in the three-game series that starts tonight, received a scholarship to play next year at Luna Community College in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Rough Riders finished 19-28 last season playing as a NJCAA independent.

“I really like the way he swings the bat,” Luna coach Peter Ortiz said. “He’s got some good pop.

“He’s got a good work ethic and a good attitude.”

Gilliard, who bats and throws right-handed, is one of 10 players Ortiz signed to a scholarship this spring.

Gilliard batted .430 for the Wildcats this year.
