Tucumcari loses to NMMI in overtime

The Tucumcari Rattlers boys basketball team lost 76-73 in overtime to the New Mexico Military Institute Friday at the Lions Classic.

Both teams held big leads in the second half and both were unable to hold them. Nathan Moore hit a shot with two seconds left in overtime and was fouled to break a 73-73 tie. Moore scored all of his 21 points in the second half and overtime for the Colts.

Jakus Martinez led the Rattlers with 29 points including 13 in fourth quarter to bring Tucumcari back from a nine-point deficit. Martinez fouled out late in the quarter.

Travis Garcia scored 21 points for the Rattlers. Garcia was fouled shooting a three-pointer with nine seconds left in overtime with Tucumcari down two. Garcia hit the first two but missed the third foul shot.

The Rattlers will play Monte De Sol at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
