Lady Longhorns earn second seed in District 4 1A
The (5-2) Logan Lady Longhorns wrapped up the second seed in District 4-1A Thursday with a 77-43 win over the (4-3)Clovis Christian Lady Eagles.
“It was homecoming,” Logan coach Clair Rachor said, “but these girls were focused on one thing, district play.”
Whitney Cordova led the way with 21 points, while Jessica Aguilera had 12 for Logan, which is idle until Thursday night’s 4-1A tournament game at home.
“We are working on getting the ball to the basket,” Rachor said. “We had a lead but we needed to work on some of the little things.”
Jocelyn Swann led Clovis Christian with 22 points and hit six 3-pointers.“We had to adjust to make sure she was not going to get the open shot,” Rachor said.
On the inside, Julia Roberts had 15 for the Lady Eagles.
San Jon and House will play on Saturday. The winner will play Clovis Christian on Tuesday and Logan will host the winner of that game Thursday night.
The winner of that game will face top seeded Grady on Friday.
“We get to play at home,” Rachor said. “We are going to work all week and prepare for the team we may face. Our goal is the state tournament, but we are going to take it one step at a time.”
The Logan boys, meanwhile, stayed perfect in 4-1A with a 82-66 victory over (2-4) Clovis Christian.
Logan (6-0) will play host to the district championship Friday night.
“Now we wait,” said Longhorns coach Billy Burns. “We will be ready for who ever shows up Friday.”
Brandon Rafool scored a game-hgih 29 for the Longhorns, while Rylan Calbert added 16.
When the Eagles had to cover Rafool and Calbert on the outside, Logan got 12 points in the post from Tanner Sorrels.
Logan led by as much as 32, and a ferocious Eagle comeback whittled the lead to as low as 12.
The Eagles were led by Kevin Naceanceno with 21 points and Kendall Naceanceno with 18.
Rebounding made the difference in the game, as the Longhorns tried to limit the Eagles to one shot per possession.
“Blocking out and controlling the rebound is important,” Burns said. “We will continue to work on the little things.”
