Rattlers win Class 2A
The Tucumcari Rattlers got 1-2 sweeps from Tyler and Taylor Koch in throwing events, and got consistent high marks on relay efforts to edge out Clayton for the Class 2A boys track championship Saturday at the University of New Mexico.
Tyler Koch won the shot and discus, with throws of 48-3 1/2 and 132-0, respectively. Taylor Koch followed him up in each with 46-9 and 126-11. The pair netted 24 of Tucumcari’s 66 points for their effort.
In the four relay events, Tucumcari got three third-place finishes (400, 1,600 and medley) and a second place (800).
The Rattlers also got a win from Michael Fazekas in the long jump (20-2 3/4), a second-place showing from Austin Sellers in the 800-meter (2:04.74) and a sixth-place finish for Lucas Benavidez in the 100-meter dash.
The Tucumcari girls scored seven points, finishing 17th.
