Clovis gets swept at Hobbs

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Clovis Wildcats baseball team got off to a slow start in its doubleheader at Hobbs and ended up on the losing end of an 11-4, 8-4 sweep.

Clovis assistant Shane Leatherwood said the timing was unfortunate, as many players were taking the ACT on Saturday prior to the game.

“We got down here and a lot of kids got here 15 minutes before game time,” Leatherwood said, “so they came out a little flat.”

Derek Bennett went 2-for-3 with a homer in the opener for Clovis (5-6-1), and Parker Wood was 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Sebastian Flores went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and Steven Encinias was 1-for-3 with a double.

In the second game, Clovis managed just six hits. Wood led the Wildcats with a 1-for-2 effort with two walks and an RBI. Michael Sena and Emory Sierra both went 1-for-3 for Clovis.
