Girls
• Sudan hit 10 3-pointers, including four by Danielle Logan, and handed Farwell its first District 5-1A loss in a 56-36 verdict at Farwell.
The Lady Blue (19-4, 3-1 district), fell one game behind the Hornettes in district play. Sudan broke the game open with a 19-4 run in the second quarter to lead 34-17 at halftime.
• At Dora, Kelli Merrick scored 12 points and Molly McAlister added 10 to lift the Lady Coyotes (14-4) past Melrose 47-40 in the District 3-1A opener for both teams. Melrose (6-6) was led by 10 points from senior Shelby McElroy.
Logan finished with 30 points while her sister, Lacee Logan, added three 3-pointers and 11 points. Senior guard Tiffani Jones paced the Lady Blue with 19 points.
• At Friona, the Squaws outscored Muleshoe 7-0 in the second overtime — all on free throws, including 5-of-5 by senior Anna Murphree — to register a 55-48 win over the Lady Mules.
Murphree went 7-of-7 for the game from the line and scored 19 points for Friona (11-11, 2-2), while Regan Anthony added 12 points and Taryn Jamerson scored 11. The Squaws were 16-of-19 from the foul line for the game and had five 3-pointers to none for Muleshoe (6-18, 0-4).
Only four players scored for Muleshoe. Sarah Johnson and Yvonne Gardea each finished with 15 points, while Alyssa Leal added 13.
• At Olton, the Lady Mustangs kept Bovina winless in District 5-1A competition with a 58-34 victory. Yoselin Rueda led the Fillies (6-11, 0-4) with 12 points.
• Samantha Romero scored 16 points and Renae Roybal added 15 as unbeaten Santa Rosa (16-0) coasted to a 63-38 non-league win at Fort Sumner. Junior Sarah Stinnett led the Vixens (9-6) with 22 points.
Boys
• Senior guard Kendall Mudgett had three 3-pointers and 15 points to help Melrose to a 58-51 District 3-1A win at Dora. Seniors Clint Barnard and Sammy Lawrence added 11 points each for the Buffaloes (7-5, 1-0), while the Coyotes (8-9, 0-1) got 13 points from Kyler King and 12 from Kevin Butler.
• Olton outscored Bovina 22-6 in the third quarter, erasing a three-point deficit, and went on to a 52-39 District 5-1A win over the Mustangs at Olton. Bobby Workman and Tommy Jimenez led a balanced Olton attack with 11 points each, while Andy Duarte scored 13 points and Andrew Marrufo added 11 for the Mustangs (7-11, 1-2).
• At Farwell, Sudan broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to hand the Steers (15-6, 2-1) a 56-43 loss. Junior guard Josh Olivas scored 20 points for Farwell and connected on six of the team’s nine 3-pointers.
• Santa Rosa put together a 30-point second quarter at Fort Sumner and the Lions (12-3) went on to a 72-48 victory over the Foxes. Robert Serrano scored 30 points and had five of the Lions’ seven 3-pointers, while Joseph Chavez added 19 points and Joaquin Bachicha scored 12.
