Roswell High sweeps Lady Cats
ROSWELL — Roswell High scored in all but two innings Tuesday night to hand Clovis High’s softball team 13-3 and 12-8 losses.
The Lady Coyotes (2-4) took control in the opener with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. That game was called in the bottom of the fifth on the 10-run rule.
Senior second baseman Chyanne Availa went 3-for-3 with a double and scored all three runs for the Lady Wildcats (2-3). Jacey Mann added a single and a double in three at-bats.
The nightcap was competitive until Roswell plated five runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 12-6 lead.
Senior left fielder Desiree Parras hit a first-inning grand slam for the Lady Cats and finished 2-for-4, while freshman right fielder Jesse Martinez singled and doubled in three at-bats and senior first baseman Charlotte Varney whacked a solo homer in the seventh.
Clovis was error-prone in both games, coach Brandi Thomas said.
“I’m really happy with the way we’re hitting the ball,” she said. “We’ve just got to clean up our defense.”
The Lady Cats return to action on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Artesia.
