Rams earn sweep at New Mexico Military Institute
The Rams got off to a solid start in District 4-3A play, needing only five innings to dispatch New Mexico Military Institute in a pair of wins, 20-6 and 14-4.
‘You always look to split on the road and sweep at home (in district),” Portales coach Arturo Ontiveros said. “A sweep on the road helps that much more.”
James Salgado went 6-for-9 in the doubleheader, and also pitched a complete game in the opener. Jesus Acosta pitched four innings of relief in the nightcap for starter David Rodriguez, who left after one inning with back problems.
