Cats rally past Alamogordo
ALAMOGORDO — Senior forward Gerardo Jimenez scored two goals and assisted on another as Clovis High’s boys rallied for a 3-2 victory Thursday over Alamogordo.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime, but the Tigers (0-4) got a pair of goals from Ben Osborne in the first two minutes of the second half to take the lead.
Jimenez scored in the 52nd minute, then assisted sophomore midfielder Johan Rascon on the tying goal about nine minutes later. On the winning goal, Jimenez worked his way around a defender and punched the ball past past Alamo goalkeeper David Joyner with about 10 1/2 minutes left.
The Wildcats improved to 3-2 with the victory, which was nearly identical to a 3-2 win last year over the Tigers after Alamo scored the first two goals.
“They put a scare in us,” CHS coach Greg Trujillo said. “The guys finally woke up. It was about the same scenario as last year.”
Clovis routed Alamo 5-0 in the JV matchup, getting goals from Juan Carrera, Matt Elliott, Tristan Mitchell, Rafael Quintana and Jose Villareal. Goalkeeper Jonathan Butt had the shutout, making three saves.
